The “Revolutionaries”??? New WTH Toy!!!

I was shopping today with my family after a rally and wanted to give my kiddos some fun. This is what we found in the “LagooonaMagoo” Toy Store at the St Louis Mills Mall. WTH?

We brought these immediately to the store clerk, who began shaking her head before we even got to the counter. “I know, we get a lot of complaints about those, but the owner insists.”  The clerk went on to explain that despite the complaints, the owner refuses to remove the toys from the shelf  “because her son loves them…at least she’s not keeping them right up here by the resister anymore.”

EVERYTHING that is wrong with our society…this is what has happened to the innocence of children!

On a side note. . .not only is Ghandi sorely misplaced, but I find it hard to believe that there is no mention of how many people these beasts murdered under the “Fascinating Facts” section.  Must be a marketing thing, I guess.

Also guessing the 100,000,000 dead victims are sold separately.

$19.99? Bet they could get $39.99 at the WashU or UMSL student stores.

One of these ‘revolutionaries’ said something like ‘Capitalists will sell us the rope to hang them with’.

You gotta wonder if they realize that that price tag makes them one of those they want to hang?

Why’d they leave out Hilter and Stalin? Did they throw Ghandi in there to give the others an ‘air’ of legitimacy?

This is the Toy store owner. We are a small independent store with family on our minds first. My staff has denied the comments….
This was not our intent with this product.
    We have pulled the product!
My son does know their names and he knows they are bad mean men.
That said this item was intended for adult history buff types.
We cannot pretend these people didn’t exsist. I hope some people have found out more about the atrocities commited by these men.
This company is lampooning these horrible figures. This item was on a rack with other adult type items like kitchen gadgets. We failed to see the relevance. We saw them as cartoonish adult action figures. I am shocked and disgusted by products I see in lots of chain stores weekly. It is easy when dealing with thousands and thousands of products to take a misstep. We are human. We have a very heavy heart about this and honestly did not mean to offend or make a statement.
Please except our apologies and please rethink vilifying us for this one poor choice.

At the risk of being flamed, vilified, and completely misunderstood, I am going to try and offer a slightly different perspective. While I agree 100% with the negative reaction most of the commentators have towards the people represented in this collection (with the probable exception of Ghandi), I am partially encouraged.

I can almost hear the collective gasp, but allow me to explain. I view this as a “teachable moment”. A chance to tell the truth about the many atrocities that most of these people committed, before their actions are somehow glorified and exalted by a left-leaning scholar, prone on revisionist history.

But far more important than that, I see it as a reminder that we live in a society that still values free speech. That certain ideologies, no matter how abhorrent to our own sensibilities they may be, are still protected by the US Constitution.

Let’s reverse the roles a bit, and put out our own “Revolutionaries” figurines – Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Thomas Paine, Sam Adams, and Patrick Henry. Under the ideologies and regimes of the former figurine set, this latter collection would never make it to the store shelves. They would be confiscated, repressed, and banned.

True freedom and liberty has no reason to oppress the voices of those whose ideologies are different from its own, because the truths found in liberty and freedom are indeed self-evident, and can never be removed.

So while I do not endorse or condone the ideologies or actions attributed to these dictators and despots, I see them more as a testament and vindication of the liberty embraced by our founding fathers – the revolutionaries that they were!
