The recent publication of names and addresses of registered gun owners in the greater West Plains, New York area, has received more backlash than accolades. The Journal (which I will not credit with a hyperlink, if you want to find it, Google it yourself…they don’t deserve the traffic) released the map, authored by Dwight Workstation. But in a high-five response to the publication, the name, address and image of the author’s information has also been published over the internet.
In an attempt to *make a statement* by re-publishing a matter of public record, Dwight Worley instead made every citizen in the area a defenseless target for violent crime. In fact, it’s even more brilliant than this:
The intimidation tactic suggested that anyone embarrassed by the publication of their information should give up their guns.
Of course, the mainstream media would not go so far as to publish a map of registered sex offenders, drug dealers, illegal gun owners, or DWI offenders…no, they go after law-abiding citizens.
It gets even stupider: the map only displays registered owners of handguns. It is not required to register shotguns and rifles in the state of New York…probably because shotguns do less damage than a .22 caliber pistol (snark).
The MSM will never get past these tactics. They are incapable of using logic because they are to blinded by their delusions of notoriety and their bent on sensationalism. In fact, there is no longer a line between the MSM and papparazzi publicity.
So my question now: Will the Post-Dispatch follow suit? Maybe. They certainly have no problem publishing their fair share of smut. If they do, I’m afraid they will be disappointed, as we Constitution-loving, law-abiding citizens are beating them to the punch.
My full disclosure:
As a resident of the state of Missouri, I have submitted myself to the appropriate background-check process required to own a firearm, and was approved. I have been professionally trained in tactical defense with a firearm, as well as in-home and out-of-home tactical defense.
I consciously make the responsible decision to practice the controlled handing of firearms at a shooting range to ensure that, if threatened to the point where the only option left in defense was that of discharging a firearm, I can accurately discharge a firearm with mind to safety of anything outside of that threat.
I believe in the Constitution of the United States of America as a binding contract. I believe in the Second Amendment. I believe that I have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness…as well as the right to defend it.
With this in mind. I may own guns, I may not. I would strongly recommend that you do not attempt to find out by breaking I.to my house with a weapon. Just sayin!
