Invocation receives standing ovation, despite attempts to stop it.

This is what we, as Christians, are called to do. We were never promised it was going to be easy, but we were promised we would never be alone. This is what graduating high school student and class President Jonathan Hardwick of Lincoln County High School in Stanford, Kentucky learned last Friday. He received a standing ovation during his graduation ceremony after leading attendees in prayer, despite an attempt by six students who had attempted to have the invocation banned.

As reported by ChristianNews.net Hardwick stood by his beliefs and values. A bold move that not only went noticed, but was cheered by a crowd re-energized in the very soul.

“Thank you for helping us get here safely today, Lord,” he prayed. “And thank you for the many blessings You have given us.”

At first, the room filled with claps and cheers for Hardwick, but several seconds later, graduation attendees rose to their feet.

Prayer has been a tradition at Lincoln County High School, but this year, six students approached Principal Tim Godbey and asked him to put an end to the practice.

We need more Davids, like Hardwick, in today’s society…especially amongst our youth. This is a breath of fresh air to say the least.

RIP C. Everett Koop

February 26, 2012

Koop

Former Surgeon General, C. Everett Koop died Monday at his home in Hanover, N.H.,  died Monday at his home in Hanover, N.H.. The cause of his death has not been made clear at this point. He was 96.

Koop, nominated by President Reagan in 1981,  served seven years as Surgeon General. The evangelical Christian was initially faced with great opposition to his nomination due to his personal views on abortion. Koop, however, was one of the few figures in American history who had the ability to separate his personal views from the politics of it all.

During the AIDS epidemic of the 1980s, Koop became a champion for AIDS research and education, and was heralded by both the homosexual community and AIDS activists alike. The AIDS scare came to an end in 1989, when Koop retired his post. Among the other health issues facing the culture at that time, he declared smoking a public health hazard, pioneering the way for the inquiry into big tobacco corporations.

I had the honor of working with C. Everett Koop, a pediatric surgeon, in the mid-nineties as a PR Agent. Face to face, the enormity of his stature was diluted by his humility and wit. He did of course, however, pull me aside at a gala in 1994 at a gala at the Adam’s Mark Hotel, taking a stern tone after he caught me smoking outside the event. His works, and our conversations left a lasting impression on me to this day.

Sad to see him go, perhaps his passing will not only bring to spotlight his great accomplishments and service to his country, but also serve as a reminder to those in the world of politics that it is possible to put aside the personal, and work for the common good of the people.

Hobby Lobby Appreciation Day 1.5.2013

The largest Arts and Craft store in America, Hobby Lobby, has become the latest target of the socialist political agenda, and the witch-hunt of Christian corporations, organizations, and small business owners, perpetrated by the Mainstream Media.

Today supporters of the corporation and it’s owners religious freedoms flocked to the Hobby Lobby in Kirkwood, Missouri.

Hobby Lobby, a Christian-founded, Christian-based corporation, has decided to follow their faith in God, and the Lord’s Word, and refuse to offer potentially life-ending drugs as part of their employee insurance benefits package. In response to this decision, the Federal Government has launched an offensive against Hobby Lobby purely due to their religious beliefs.
David Greene, founder and CEO of Hobby Lobby has even informed that they will be fined a whopping $1.3million per day for refusing to comply with legislation that is in direct opposition to their religious beliefs. The federal government has exempted thousands of other corporations from this requirement due to financial concerns and financial burden. The government refuses, however, to exempt Hobby Lobby because of the unreported power-struggle of government’s quest to relinquish power over faith.
Below, find the letter released by Hobby Lobby CEO Green:

When my family and I started our company 40 years ago, we were working out of a garage on a $600 bank loan, assembling miniature picture frames. Our first retail store wasn’t much bigger than most people’s living rooms, but we had faith that we would succeed if we lived and worked according to God‘s word. From there, Hobby Lobby has become one of the nation’s largest arts and crafts retailers, with more than 500 locations in 41 states. Our children grew up into fine business leaders, and today we run Hobby Lobby together, as a family.

We’re Christians, and we run our business on Christian principles. I’ve always said that the first two goals of our business are (1) to run our business in harmony with God’s laws, and (2) to focus on people more than money. And that’s what we’ve tried to do. We close early so our employees can see their families at night. We keep our stores closed on Sundays, one of the week’s biggest shopping days, so that our workers and their families can enjoy a day of rest. We believe that it is by God’s grace that Hobby Lobby has endured, and he has blessed us and our employees. We’ve not only added jobs in a weak economy, we’ve raised wages for the past four years in a row. Our full-time employees start at 80% above minimum wage.

But now, our government threatens to change all of that. A new government health care mandate says that our family business MUST provide what I believe are abortion-causing drugs as part of our health insurance. Being Christians, we don’t pay for drugs that might cause abortions, which means that we don’t cover emergency contraception, the morning-after pill or the week-after pill. We believe doing so might end a life after the moment of conception, something that is contrary to our most important beliefs. It goes against the Biblical principles on which we have run this company since day one. If we refuse to comply, we could face $1.3 million PER DAY in government fines.

Our government threatens to fine job creators in a bad economy. Our government threatens to fine a company that’s raised wages four years running. Our government threatens to fine a family for running its business according to its beliefs. It’s not right. I know people will say we ought to follow the rules; that it’s the same for everybody. But that’s not true. The government has exempted thousands of companies from this mandate, for reasons of convenience or cost. But it won’t exempt them for reasons of religious belief.

So, Hobby Lobby – and my family – are forced to make a choice. With great reluctance, we filed a lawsuit today, represented by the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, asking a federal court to stop this mandate before it hurts our business. We don’t like to go running into court, but we no longer have a choice. We believe people are more important than the bottom line and that honoring God is more important than turning a profit.

My family has lived the American dream. We want to continue growing our company and providing great jobs for thousands of employees, but the government is going to make that much more difficult. The government is forcing us to choose between following our faith and following the law. I say that’s a choice no American – and no American business – should have to make.

The government cannot force you to follow laws that go against your fundamental religious belief. They have exempted thousands of companies but will not except Christian organizations including the Catholic church.

Since you will not see this covered in any of the liberal media, pass this on to all your contacts.

Sincerely, David Green, CEO and Founder of Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc.

Please share this letter on your blogs, and with all Christians, contacts, family, friends and fellow patriots!

Band-Aid: Christmas and the Hypocrisy of Hollywood

Remember when at least the hypocrites of Hollywood still at least encouraged prayer? Yes, hard to imagine, I know. They actually really did.
No, I don’t think they even believed what they were saying…even then…and if they did, they did, their logic was SO flawed, well, it’s terrifying that these people.could be of cultural influence.
I remember as a young, innocent, optimist how cool I thought Band-Aid was. I remember how inspired I felt every time I listened to Do They Know it’s Christmas?
Those, of course, were the days of Apartheid. Apartwho? Exactly. The *fight against Apartheid* was little more than a convenient political feel-good project aimed at indoctrinating the youth of the 80s for future political purposes. The *famine* in Ethiopia continues. And by definition, it was not a *famine*.
Now, in my older, wiser years, as the rosy glasses have come off, I can see just how stupid, insulting, and self-serving that little jingle really is.
image
(just to note: none of the *featured artists* for this little ditty were of African decent…nor were they black Americans…just another little note on hypocrisy by today’s standards…)

Let’s take a look at the grammatically, logically, and historically challenged lyrics of this who’s who collaboration of the 1980s:

Do They Know it’s Christmas? (Feed the World)- 1984:

Paul Young: It’s Christmas time, there’s no need to be afraid. At christmastime,
Big “C”, little “c”…take your pick…then decide if it is one word or two.

we let in light and we banish shade.
Wrong, enviornmentalists encourage minimal use of electricity…oh, wait! That’s not literal? My bad. It’s still wrong. In this society, we banish everything and everything that could be meaningful to one person for the sake that it might not *offend* another.

Boy George: And in our world of plenty, we can spread a smile of joy!
Okay, I agree with that

Throw your arms around the world at christmas time.
Huh? Christians barely have the ability to celebrate Christmas without persecution…and just about anyone or any business who dares to say “Merry Christmas” is sued. This assumption is rejected as status quo dictates we keep to ourselves.

(Phil Collins on the drums)

George Micheal: But say a prayer-
WHAT!!??!?!?!?

pray for the other ones.
ZOMG! He says it twice! Again, WHAT!!??!?!?!?!?

At christmas time,

Simon Le Bon: it’s hard,
“It’s hard? What’s hard? It’s hard to pray? Actually, it’s not…unless you dare utter a sound while doing so…then yes, it is heard to pray with people screaming in your ear about how your prayer offends their spiritual immaturity.

but when you’re having fun,
Fun is not allowed…just sayin!

there’s a world outside your window
Not just in Africa, and it does include the United States of America too…we also have the poor, the starving, the unemployed here that need help here too!

Sting and Simon Le Bon: And it’s a world of dreaded fear,
Yep, the whole world experiences that.

where the only water flowing is a bitter sting of tears
I think this would have been better written as “stream”…that being said, I am willing to concede that this was pertinent to the time it was written and not inclusive of the millions of wells that have been built around the world by Christian organizations and churches since this song was authored.

and the christmas bells that ring there are the clanging chimes of doom:
Wrong again. Anything of fear is not of God.

Bono: Well tonight thank God it’s them instead of you.
*Sigh*, this is getting old…forgive me, I guess I just have to resolve myself to the fact that this is an athiest writing a “cHRiSt-?-mAS” song…or is it a “Christian” with no clue about who God is or how He really works? NEVER rejoice in the struggles of others, but lift them up in prayer.

And there won’t be snow in Africa this christmas time.
Ironic…this was in the day and age of *Global Cooling*. Yes, “Global Cooling”!!!

The greatest gift they’ll get this year is life,
Okay, hold it right here for a second. This was the statement that initially caught my attention: LIFE is the greatest gift any of us will ever get…and minute of any hour of any day of any week of any year. Life is the greatest gift we will ever get! We were never promised tomorrow. I’ll go one further: The entire point of the Christian celebration of Christmas is not about trees, or material items, or feasts, or bells, or stockings, it snow…it’s not about the date of December 25… It is about celebrating the Gift God gave to those of us who do believe in Him. That gift was God-incarnate, Jesus. And the celebration of Christmas is the celebration of the Gift of the birth of Jesus.
Interestingly, the “Christmas” acceptable here in America seems to be the secular celebration of a big fat man (who obviously doesn’t do yoga and cares nothing of his health) who magically flies around the sky via reindeer (okay, let’s teach our kids that lying is okay, if it is for a *good enough* reason, lavishing undeserved gifts on punk-nosed snots (admit it, you know who I am talking about), and spending money you can not afford to prove your love…which, by the way makes it impossible to achieve the one thing God and Band-Aid have in common here: charity. Of course, according to Band-Aid, charity is solely limited to Africa, and not your fellow brother or sister who us in need.

Okay, let’s finish this up…

Where nothing ever grows,
Assumption rejected. Plenty grows in Africa.

no rain or rivers flow
Again, assumption rejected. There are rivers in Africa, and it does rain there too…

Do they know it’s christmas time at all?
Possibly not. Has the Bible been shared with them? Gave they been introduced to Christianity?…you know, hence Christmas?
I mean, honestly, if the answer is “No”, then what is the point of this song, really? How could they possibly understand the motive behind and offering they know nothing about?
More importantly, why in the world would you do something under such false pretended, if you reject Christ?
Do people really not see the fallacy in this? It’s totally ignorant, really.

Here’s to you, raise your glass for everyone.
Ah, here we get into the Hollywood mindset…Everything is a celebration! Let us pat ourselves on the back for a job well done! *Insert occasion for celebration here* And actually,.if you watch the video today, you will not only see that, yes, these people did at one time have a full head of hair, but they really DO enjoy patting each other on the back for a job well done, than they enjoyed the actual making of this.

Here’s to them,
Snide and self-serving.

underneath that burning sun.
Again, Global Cooling. Had they no hope?

Do they know it’s christmas time at all?
See above.

Feed the world
Feed the world
Feed the world
A statistical impossibility.

Let them know it’s christmas time and
Feed the world.
And it just becomes redudndant from here…

Let them know it’s christmas time
and
Feed the world Let them know it’s christmas time
and
Feed the world Let them know it’s christmas time
and
Feed the world Let them know it’s christmas time
and
Feed the world
Let them know it’s christmas time
Drumroll for the most logical illogical lyrics of the entire song:
I hope you like this song even though it’s not Christmas.
Yep.

Boy Scout Bashing, UPS, and a Tale of Discrimination Hypocrisy

The United Parcel Device has announced that they will no longer grant any charity to one of the most charitable organizations in America: The Boy Scouts of America.

The BSA, a private organization, has spent over 100 years in nurturing the moral, charitable, and responsible character of young boys, and maturing young men.

UPS released a statement:

The UPS Foundation seeks to support organizations that are in alignment with our focus areas, guidelines, and non-discrimination policy. UPS and The UPS Foundation do not discriminate against any person or organization with regard to categories protected by applicable law, as well as other categories protected by UPS and The UPS Foundation in our own policies. These include, but are not limited to race, gender, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran or military status, pregnancy, age and religion.

Hmm, actually, it sounds to me as if UPS is discriminating against the BSA, as well as scouts everywhere. Hypocrite much?
I’m sure the BSA will manage. There are other parcel services who would gladly contribute to the BSA.

The Boy Scouts of America’s official policy on homosexuality and court rulings:
The Boy Scouts of America (BSA), one of the largest private youth organizations in the United States, has policies which prohibit atheists, agnostics and “open or avowed” homosexual people from membership in its Scouting program as directly violating its fundamental principles and tenets. BSA has denied or revoked membership status or leadership positions for violation of these foundational principles.

The BSA contends that these policies are essential in its mission to instill in young people the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

The organization’s legal right to have these policies has been upheld repeatedly by both state and federal courts. In Boy Scouts of America v. Dale, the Supreme Court of the United States has affirmed that as a private organization, the BSA can set its own membership standards. The BSA’s policies have been legally challenged but have not been found to constitute illegal discrimination; as a private organization in the United States the BSA has the right to freedom of association, as determined in the court case.

As of the announcement by UPS, thousands of Scouts throughout the United States have declared that they will no longer use UPS, both personally, as well as businesses. Many taking to their blogs and are suggesting to buycott other parcel services:

One of the reasons this country is going downhill so fast is that conservatives and Christians continue to support organizations that are hostile to our values

Take UPS, for example.

Its decision to publicly attack one of the finest organizations in America, the Boy Scouts, for putting kids first and staying true to its core principles by refusing to admit homosexual members tells you that this is not an organization that is friendly to Christian values.

The philanthropic arm of shipping giant UPS said it will no longer give money to the Boy Scouts of America as long as the group discriminates against gays, the second major corporation to recently strip funding from the scouts.

The UPS Foundation made the change Thursday after an online petition protesting its annual grants to the Boy Scouts attracted more than 80,000 signatures. UPS, based in Atlanta, follows computer chip maker Intel in withdrawing corporate support for the Boy Scouts.

UPS spokeswoman Kristen Petrella said groups applying for the foundation grants will have to adhere to the same standards UPS does by not discriminating against anyone based on race, religion, disability or sexual orientation.

“We promote an environment of diversity and inclusion,” Petrella said Monday. “UPS is a company that does the right things for the right reasons.”

Certainly, UPS doesn’t have to give the Boy Scouts any money, but when it wants to make sure that everyone knows that it doesn’t support the single best youth organization in America because that group is trying to adhere to their own traditional values, Christians shouldn’t support that. Use the Post Office, use FedEx, but don’t keep giving your money to companies that hold people like you in contempt.

While some have argued that the BSA is a Christian based organization, that would.be incorrect…however, Christian values are most certainly alligned with the core values if the Boy Scouts organization.

That being said, to discriminate against and organization for “discrimination” is just about the most backward-thinking, idiotic act of stupidity out there.

This is what UPS is discriminating against:

Scouting statisticshttp://scoutingabout.com:

Of 100 Boys in Scouting -* Only rarely will one appear in juvenile court. * 12 will receive their first church contact through Scouting. * 5 will receive church religious emblems. * 1 will enter the clergy due to his Scouting relationships. * 18 will develop hobbies that will give them a lifelong interest. * 8 will find their future life vocations. * 1 will use Scout skills to save another’s life. * 1 will credit Scout skills with saving his own life. * 2 of the 100 will reach the Eagle Rank. * 17 will later become leaders in Scouting and will pass on their skills, inspiration and leadership to countless youth. A comparative study of the records of Scouts and non-Scouts in a sampling of schools and colleges shows that Scouts hold most of the major positions of leadership in the student body. The survey resulted in the following statistics in regard to school officers bearing a large amount of responsibility. * Of senior class presidents, 89% were Scouts. * Of junior class presidents, 80% were Scouts. * Of business managers of school publications, 75% were Scouts. * Of student council presidents, 85% were Scouts. * Of school newspaper editors, 88% were Scouts. * Of editors of school annuals, 77% were Scouts. * Of basketball captains, 64% were Scouts. Numbered among the alumni of the Boy Scouts of America are: * 64% of Air Force Academy graduates. * 58% of West Point graduates. * 70% of Annapolis graduates. * 72% of Rhodes scholars. * 85% of FBI agents. * 26% of the 29 U.S. astronauts.

Wow!
…and UPS carries boxes.
